• DWAYNE "DEE" PRIESTER has been named assistant headmaster at Big Island private co-educational, college-prep Hawaii Preparatory Academy. He succeeds Marc Rice who will oversee expansion of the school's science outreach, and other "flagship" programs, as director of science outreach and information technology. Rice will continue to lead HPA's recognized turtle research program. Priester was most recently principal at Fremont Junior High School in Mesa, Ariz., and adjunct professor at Northern Arizona University. He is a June 2005, doctoral candidate in educational leadership at Nova Southeastern University, and holds certifications as principal and secondary social-studies teacher. He began his new position at the Parker Ranch campuses July 1.
• ALSO NAMED: Former HPA headmaster and more than 25-year school veteran, JOHN R. COLSON, has been named founding headmaster of the new independent Maui Preparatory Academy, scheduled to open on its new campus in the Kapalua, West Maui, area in September of next year. Colson has also served as HPA counselor, teacher, coach, athletic director, dean and principal of both HPA Middle and Upper schools. He is a founding trustee of Hualalai Academy, and founding member of the Hawaii Council of Private Schools. • MATTHEW PICKETT, most recently catering service manager at the Hawai'i Convention Center, has been named food and beverage operations manager at the Halekulani Corp.'s Waikiki Parc Hotel. This will include oversight of the property's two restaurants, the Kyoto, Japan-style Kacho, and the Parc Cafe. His more than 10-year career in food and beverage management has included stints at Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort and Spa, Ohana Keahou Beach Resort, Outrigger Waikoloa Beach Resort, Grand Wailea Resort and Spa and Hilton Waikoloa Village. • KEVIN GINOZA, previously assistant golf professional for the Waikoloa Beach & Golf Resort's Beach Course, has been named head golf professional at the resort's 18-hole championship Waikoloa Kings' Course. The 7,064-yard course on the Big Island's Kohala Coast, designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish, features six lakes and 83 bunkers. Ginoza has been an assistant golf professional at the resort since 1999. He began playing golf at age 10, has competed at junior and college levels, and initiated the Waikoloa junior Golf Program. • CHRIS S. MASHIBA, an associate since 1997 in the tax department of Cades Schutte LLP, has been named partner, effective Jan. 1, 2004. His practice is concentrated in the areas of federal and state tax planning, and business and individual tax audits. He is also a certified public accountant. The law partnership has also added seven new attorneys: CARYN H. OKINAGA, an associate, Finance and Real Estate Department; TAKAMITSU PAUL SASAKI, an associate, Litigation Department; DAVID W. LONBORG, counsel, Tax Department and Employment Practice Group; NEILL T. TSENG, an associate, Litigation Department; ERNEST H. NOMURA, counsel, Litigation Department; ELENA J. ONAGA, of counsel, Litigation Department and CALVERT G. CHIPCASE, an associate, Litigation Department. • LYNN SMILEY has been named general manager of the 1,000-acre Maui Lani master-planned community. The central-Maui development includes six distinctly unique residential neighborhoods, The Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course, the Dunes Restaurant and the Kaiser-Permanente Maui Lani Medical Center. Smiley's 18-year career has included positions in the United States and Japan, including hospital/medical administration, university-level computer studies and as operations director.
