ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Jasmine spotted on 'North Shore'

Advertiser Staff and News Services

"American Idol" met "North Shore" last night. It was brief, but Mililani resident Jasmine Trias (pictured) — now on the Mainland — had a bit part in last night's episode of "North Shore" when she checked into the hotel and told Vincent it was good to be home.

Ben Wong of "Let's Go Fishing" fame was a detective, sports anchor Robert Kekaula reappeared as the head of security, Melinda Benson played the front-desk clerk Rebecca, and local actors Troy Ignacio and Ely 'Aina Rapoza played pakalolo growers. Valerie Seagrave, secretary to Vincent, is a dancer for the Hawaiian Islanders arena football team.

'Anchorman' at No. 2

Neither Will Ferrell (pictured) nor a knight in shining armor could unseat "Spider-Man 2" at the box office last weekend. The web-slinging hero earned around $46 million in his second weekend in a row at the No. 1 spot. "Anchorman" opened in second place with $28 million. The demystified "King Arthur" tale brought in about $15.2 million after lackluster reviews and a similar debut on Wednesday.

Michael Moore's anti-Bush documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" enjoyed the weekend's No. 4 spot with $11 million.

Final word

Ed Bark, TV critic for the Dallas Morning News on the fall TV series "Lost," which is being shot on O'ahu:

"Viewers ... would do well to find 'Lost,' the saga of 48 plane-crash survivors stranded on a spooky island apparently populated by mysterious, big-footed creatures. 'Survivor' meets 'Jurassic Park'? We'll see."
