Keaulana ousted at world meet

Advertiser Staff

Three-time former world champion Rusty Keaulana of Hawai'i was eliminated in the fourth round of the Nokia International Longboard Bear Championships yesterday at Biarritz, France.

Daniel Harris, of Great Britain, caught a 2-footer just before the end of the heat and rode it for just enough points to edge Keaulana, 12.00 to 10.15.

Noah Shimabukuro, also from Hawai'i, amassed 12.15 points to win the heat and advance in the World Championship Tour event.

Other surfers from Hawai'i still in the competition are: Ned Snow, Dino Miranda, Keegan Edwards, Duane DeSoto, Kekoa Uemura and Bonga Perkins.

The winner will be crowned world champion. Longboard surfing is for those who ride boards that are at least 9 feet.
