Ching spurs Earthquakes

Kamehameha graduate Brian Ching helped the San Jose Earthquakes beat the host Portland Timbers, 3-0, last night in the round of 16 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup soccer tournament.
Ching took a return pass from Landon Donovan early in the game and found himself one-and-one with the goalkeeper. Defender Gavin Wilkinson took Ching down from behind to earn a red card, and Ronnie Ekelund converted to make it 1-0 in the 18th minute.
Ching also assisted on Ramiro Corrales goal in the 55th minute, pushing a pass out wide to Corrales, who beat his defender before firing into the goal.
Dwayne De Rosario headed in the final goal.
FITNESS
Speed sessions resume this weekend
The Hawai'i Speed and Quickness Clinic resumes with sessions the next three weekends at the University of Hawai'i athletic complex.
This Saturday and Sunday, there are sessions for ages 7 to 12 from 10:30 a.m. to noon and for those 13-and-older from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Each session is $10, a fee that includes a Jamba Juice coupon and refreshments.
Quarterback Tim Chang and soccer standout Natasha Kai are listed as guest instructors on the clinic's Web site (www.hawaiispeedandquickness.com).
