Two men charged in Leeward attackTwo men were charged with federal firearms offenses yesterday in connection with a shooting Wednesday morning in Wai'anae.
Guy S. Joseph, 32, was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and Zbigniew John Nawrocki, 47, is charged with federal firearms violations related to an earlier domestic-violence conviction.
Both are being held without bail.
Two men shot at another man Wednesday in what police said was a dispute over a stolen air compressor. No one was injured.
Snorkeler, 58, dies off Makapu'u
A 58-year-old man died after being pulled unconscious from waters off the Makai Pier in Makapu'u.
He was identified today by the Medical Examiner's Office as Lee Townes, 58, of Chicago.
Police said Townes was part of a snorkeling tour and was found face down in the water at about 10 a.m. Emergency workers attempted to revive him, police said.
Townes was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police said they did not suspect foul play.
An autopsy is planned.
Motorcycle crash kills 19-year-old
A 19-year-old Salt Lake man was killed early today in a motorcycle crash on Moanalua Road near Kaonohi Street in Pearl City. The medical examiner's office identified him as Randy Nagaishi.
Nagaishi lost control of his 2002 R6 Yamaha motorcycle and crashed into a utility pole at 12:57 a.m., said police Sgt. Alan Vegas. Nagaishi was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:07 a.m.
The death is O'ahu's 36th traffic fatality of the year compared with 43 by this date in 2003.
Date Street raid leads to charges
A 54-year-old man was charged yesterday with drug and firearms offenses stemming from a narcotics raid Tuesday on a fourth-floor apartment at 2100 Date St. in Mo'ili'ili.
George Inouye is accused of first- and second-degree promotion of dangerous drugs, four firearms offenses and unlawful trafficking in methamphetamine. He was released yesterday after posting $100,000 bail.
Inouye will be arraigned Tuesday at District Court.
An affadavit filed at District Court says police found 28.35 grams of crystal methamphetamine and black-tar heroin in a bedroom during the raid.
Police also seized a loaded semiautomatic pistol, a revolver and a sawed-off shotgun with two boxes of ammunition.
Two women, ages 42 and 36, have been released.
Captured fugitive being returned
A fugitive arrested Wednesday in Boise, Idaho, on no-bail warrants for distributing crystal methamphetamine and firearms offenses in Hawai'i appeared before a federal magistrate yesterday.
Reinier Kraan, 39, will be sent back to Hawa'i for trial, according to Hawai'i Fugitive Task Force agents, who had tracked Kraan to Las Vegas.
Kraan fled from the Hawai'i agents Tuesday and was en route to Canada when arrested in Idaho.
Kraan has been on the run since July 1998 when he eluded capture by federal agents and police in Hawai'i.
Big Island man critical after crash
A 20-year-old man was critically injured today on the Big Island when his pickup truck crashed through a barricade at end of Route 130 in Kalapana. The man was flown to The Queen's Medical Center with critical head and internal injuries, police said.
The crash was reported at 4 a.m.
