Advertiser Staff

July is National Ice Cream month, so break out the hot fudge and banana splits — it's time to celebrate with a few creamy cold factoids, provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture:

• In 2003, the United States produced about 1.4 billion gallons of ice cream — about 20 quarts per person.

• Vanilla remains the most popular flavor (33 percent), followed by chocolate flavors (19 percent).

• Ice cream and related frozen desserts are consumed by more than 90 percent of U.S. households.

FINAL WORD

Will Smith

Star of "I, Robot," which opens in theaters tonight, on being viewed as a U.S. export:

"I'm Mr. America, everywhere in the world. I'm a black dude who's become a big movie star in America. Even if there are things that America does that I don't agree with or (would) be ... happy to debate, I'm absolutely penalized, as all Americans are, for the actions of our government."
