Teen critical after collision

A 16-year-old Kane'ohe boy was critically injured last night in a traffic collision on Likelike Highway near Nala-nieha Street in Kalihi.

Police said the boy lost control of a speeding 1997 Ford Mustang traveling southbound on Likelike Highway shortly after 9 p.m. The car slid across the roadway and slammed into a 1997 Mazda pickup truck in the left-turn lane before crashing into a guardrail.

The boy was taken to The Queen's Medical Center. The driver of the pickup truck, a 41-year-old woman, was checked at Kuakini Medical Center for chest pains and released, police said.

The attack at 1162 Smith St. was reported to police at 11:45 p.m.
