Bank merger vote set for Sept. 13

Central Pacific Financial Corp. and CB Bancshares, the parent of City Bank, will hold consecutive shareholders meetings on Sept. 13 at Dole Cannery to vote on a proposed merger of the two banks.

The merger, which was approved by the management of both banks, needs to be approved by three-fourths of all outstanding shares of each company for it to go through. Shareholders also will be asked to vote on issuance of Central Pacific stock in relation to the merger as well as stock compensation and executive incentive plans.


Ad group offers free campaign

Ad 2 Honolulu, an organization for young advertising professionals, is giving away a free public-awareness campaign to a nonprofit in Hawai'i.

Last year's winner, Hawaii Literacy, received more than $1 million worth of advertising services and media buys. The ad professionals group has been providing pro bono services since 1969. Interested nonprofit organizations should apply by Aug. 6. For more information, call 792-0248.
