Golfers Kajihara, Dwyer, Ito honored

Three collegiate women golfers from Hawai'i were selected to the National Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholar Teams.

They are Portland State freshman Lisa Kajihara (King Kekaulike '03 of Pukalani) in art/graphic design, UCLA senior Bridget Dwyer (Punahou '99 of Kailua) in economics, and Nebraska junior Merynn Ito ('Aiea '01) in journalism.

The minimum cumulative grade point average for all honorees is 3.50, and 318 golfers from Divisions I, II and III were selected.

MORE HONORS

• Two track and field athletes from Hawai'i were part of the 622 student-athletes selected to the spring academic all-Mountain West Conference team.

They are New Mexico senior distance runner Leighton Katsuda (Baldwin of Wailuku), with a 3.22 grade point average in Asian studies and San Diego State sophomore distance runner Christal Cuadra (Maryknoll '02 of Honolulu), with a 3.03 in economics.

Athletes needed to maintain a 3.0 GPA and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.

Women's soccer

• Brigham Young sophomore defender Charlene Lui (Punahou '02 of Honolulu) was named a Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete, one of 424 student-athletes awarded the honor.

Mountain West scholar-athletes must have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better and competed in at least one varsity contest.

Lui, who has not declared a major, earned a 3.56 GPA and started 26 games.

Softball

• California-Berkeley junior outfielder Kaleo Eldredge (Baldwin '01 of Wailuku) was selected to the 2004 Easton All-America first team.

She batted .339 with nine doubles, seven home runs and 32 RBIs, and helped lead the Golden Bears to their sixth straight World Series appearance.

Women's Tennis

• Claremont-Mudd-Scripps freshman Jessica Nagasako (Lahainaluna '03 of Lahaina) was named to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first team in singles.

Men's Volleyball

• Pacific Lutheran's (Tacoma, Wash.) Adam Burke (Mililani '00) was named to the All-Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League first team.

Burke, a midfielder, was a scholastic All-American and U.S. Lacrosse Men's Division Intercollegiate Associates All-America honorable mention selection.
