Apisa, who normally appears as a "heavy" in TV and film work, is a former footballer who surprises folks he meets, because he's quite a nice, gentle guy off screen. ...
Comedian Ralphie May, who did a one-nighter Friday at the Blaisdell Center's Pikake Room, told Perry & Price at Saturday's John Dominis breakfast show that he can't remember getting the first standing ovation in 10 years when he appeared on Jay Leno's "Tonight" show. May, who was the runner-up on last season's "Last Comic Standing," had viral meningitis with a 104-degree fever, and all he could try to do was keep his food down, fearing he might upchuck in front of fellow guest star Snoop Dogg. Memory lane: Keith Haugen is selling his entire vinyl and tape collection of Hawaiian recordings, including his 78-rpm discs, 45s and long-plays (as well as cassettes), music often heard on his KIPO radio show, "Music of Hawai'i." He's also giving specific selections to special folks gave Jeffrey Apaka originals of his father, Alfred Apaka, singing with the Andrews Sisters. Haugen needs to downsize his collection. When publicist David Patterson was in Los Angeles, he did his annual high school broadcast news camp at UCLA, which included a field trip to Fox-11 for an on-site peek at a morning show. "While there, I found out that Jasmine Trias was going to be on the show the next morning," said Patterson, who always brings along boxes of chocolate-covered macadamia nuts and Kona coffee for the TV gang.
