Man arraigned in carjacking case

A 28-year-old man charged in a June 26 carjacking in Kane'ohe was arraigned yesterday at District Court.

Caillen A. Gentzler is accused of second-degree robbery and kidnapping. Bail is $75,000. His preliminary hearing is Friday.

Gentzler and 23-year-old Anthony K. Rodrigues, who was charged earlier this month, allegedly commandeered a 2002 Ford pickup truck from a 22-year-old man who had stopped on Pu'ahu'ula Place in Kane'ohe to ask for directions. The victim was forced to remain with his abductors while driving the truck around Windward O'ahu.

The victim was robbed of cash and credit cards and was forced to withdraw several hundred dollars from an ATM before being released.

Gentzler was arrested Tuesday following an appearance at 'Ewa District Court in Pearl City for warrant offenses unrelated to the current charge.
