Hawai'i Craftsmen presents its 28th Annual Raku Ho'olaule'a with guest artists Dave and Boni Deal next month.
The event focuses on the traditional Japanese style of pottery firing, popular in Hawai'i and worldwide.
Demonstrations on raku firing, tea-bowl making and raku glazing precede a four-day festival at Kualoa Regional Park, where groups of artists from Hawai'i and around the world will fire up their kilns beachside. Find them at Kualoa Beach Park (campsite A) firing pots, pot racing, floating sculptures and celebrating art in Hawai'i.
A community kiln is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 7. For a small donation, participants can glaze a tea bowl. Hawai'i Craftsmen volunteers will fire it.
Hawai'i Craftsmen also presents a series of lectures, demonstrations and events revolving around clay sculpture and the Raku Ho'olaule'a.
