Weddings

Laurie Dorothy Mailem, daughter of Catalino Mailem of Kahului, Maui, and the late Lita Mailem, and Michael Octavio, son of Nelia Flores of Honolulu, were married April 14 at Kaka'ako Waterfront Park. The bride (1996 Maui High/University of Illinois bachelor's), now Laurie Dorothy Mailem Octavio, is an educational assistant. The groom (1993 Moanalua High) is a sergeant in the Marine Corps. The couple lives in Honolulu.

Melanie Michie Shiraki and Samuel Michael Keaka Schmucker, both formerly of Honolulu, were married Dec. 20 at the Oahu Country Club, where the reception followed. The bride (University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign bachelor's), now Melanie Michie Shiraki Schmucker, is a manufacturing design engineer. The groom (Kalani High), now Samuel Michael Keaka Shiraki Schmucker, is a student at Ohlone College in California. The couple lives in Fremont, Calif.
