Organ recipients to compete

Twelve Hawai'i residents who are organ transplant recipients will compete in the U.S. Transplant Games, convening Tuesday in Minneapolis. The event will run through Aug. 1.

The Isle contingent of athletes range in age from 9-year-old Ray Agaran Jr. to 65-year-old Herbert Endo. Ray has competed before; other returning athletes are Sandy Webster, Martin Hee, Abby Barsatan-Lorica, Yolanda Domingo, Calvin Nakamoto and Alfrey Pacada.

Entering the event for the first time are Merle Moribe, Rae Dean Tomihama, Rachael Wong and Larry Yim. Tomihama is the most recent recipient on the team, undergoing her kidney transplant Aug. 12, of last year. She also participated in the Great Aloha Run in February.
