Comments urged as UH considers 6 possibilities for logo

Six logos are up on the University of Hawai'i Web site today for public scrutiny as the school moves forward on making a final choice of an image to "brand" itself internationally.
Phil Kinnicutt, UH director of marketing and brand management, said the six images offered by three Hawai'i design firms will be on the site (www.hawaii.edu/news/brand/finalsix.php) until Thursday and public commentary will play a role in the decision.
"The committee meets Aug. 11 to see where they end up," Kinnicutt said.
Comments may be e-mailed to uhdesign@hawaii.edu or mailed to UH Design, University of Hawai'i, Bachman Hall 112-F, 2444 Dole St., Honolulu, HI, 96822.
The six designs are by Clarence Lee Design & Associates of Honolulu, Sae Design of Maui and Graphic House of Honolulu. Each firm will receive $5,000 for the work done already and the firm selected will receive an additional $5,000 to complete the final design work.
In the wake of last year's largely negative reaction to the first two proposed logos, the UH Board of Regents established the new process for a symbol to market the university worldwide.
The new logo will not replace the Warrior H used for the Manoa athletic department or the UH seal used on graduation diplomas.
It also will not replace the Vulcans logo used by the University of Hawai'i-Hilo.
