ISLAND LIFE SHORTS

Get in the swing with some jazzy glad rags

Gotta dance at the 11th annual Hawaii International Jazz Festival, tonight and tomorrow on O'ahu? Get in the mood with vintage looks. Be a "sweater girl" with a buttoned-up beaded sweater and a swinging gored skirt, preferably polka-dot. A halter dress and platform shoes (yes, they're back yet again, from Prada and Marc Jacobs) look great for the Lindy. Guys can wear their wingtips or oxfords with a pinstripe suit, and don't forget a flower in the lapel. Or a classic white shirt with pleated pinstripe pants — and suspenders, of course.

Young collectors at ARTafterDARK

It's the last Friday of the month. You know what that means. Artsy types know it's ARTafterDARK at the Honolulu Academy of Arts.

Tonight's theme is "Artists and Young Collectors Night." It will feature quick ZIP-Talks by local artists, collectors and appraisers and ZIP-Tours of Artists of Hawai'i.

General admission is $7. It's free for museum members and runs 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Information: 532-6094.

FINAL WORD

Chris Albrecht
HBO chairman, announcing that the sixth season of the "Sopranos" won't premiere until 2006:

"It's like the Harry Potter book. You'll wait very long and be happy when you get it."
