Third 'American Idol' concert announced for Honolulu

Advertiser Staff

Prepare for yet another evening of Idol worship.

Tickets for a third "American Idol" concert will go on sale on Saturday, promoter Tom Moffatt Productions announced today. The 7 p.m., Sept. 30 concert joins two already sold-out shows at Blaisdell Arena on Sept. 28 and 29.

Tickets — $48 each — will go sale at 9 a.m. at the Blaisdell box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and all Times Supermarkets. Purchases may also be made by phone at 877-750-4400, or online at www.ticketmaster.com.

The new show will also feature Hawai'i Idol contestants Jasmine Trias and Camile Velasco, along with eight other finalists. The new concert displaces a Hawai'i Pacific University women's volleyball game previously scheduled for the Blaisdell Arena that evening.

The announcement of a third Honolulu Idol show was hardly a surprise given its sales potential and seemingly insatiable local demand for all things Idol.

Tom Moffatt Productions spokeswoman Agge Sjobom said that tickets for the first two Blaisdell shows — in all, 12,000 seats — sold out in a record five hours on opening sales day May 22. That sellout was the quickest for the venue since every seat for a single World Wrestling Entertainment "Tour Of Defiance" show featuring former O'ahu resident Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson were snatched up in two hours in May 2002.
