Hawai'i sailors finish tied for sixth

The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team finished in a tie for sixth at the Inter-collegiate Sailing Association North American Team Race Championships yesterday at Cascade Locks, Ore.

The Rainbows completed the round-robin competition with a 5-9 record.

The Hobart and William Smith colleges of Geneva, N.Y., won the championship, which began with 14 schools, with a 10-4 record. St. Mary's (9-5) was second and Dartmouth (8-6) third.

The Rainbows begin competition in the Coed Dinghy North American Championships today.

Kai scores in U.S. loss: University of Hawai'i forward Natasha Kai scored in the U.S. Under-21 National Team's 2-1 loss to the Brazil Olympic Team Saturday at Aguas de Lindoia at Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Kai, the two-time defending Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, scored her national team-leading seventh goal of the year in the 62nd minute.

The U.S. U-21 National Team also tied the Brazilian Olympic Team, 0-0, on Thursday.

Lynch captures Kona Open: John Lynch birdied the final hole to finish with a 2-under-par 70 and a one-stroke victory in the Kona Open yesterday at the Kona Country Club Ocean Course in Kailua, Kona.

Lynch shot 1-under 143 to win $3,000 and edge Regan Lee, Matthew Pakkala and amateur J.T. Hamamoto.
