UH sailors second at dinghy nationals

Fueled by a strong showing in A division, the University of Hawai'i sailing team was in second place yesterday after the first day of the Inter-collegiate Sailing Association North American Coed Dinghy Championships.
Sailing was held under sunny conditions and 8- to 12-knot winds on the Columbia River Gorge in Cascade Locks, Ore.
The Rainbows amassed 54 points to trail Dartmouth by nine. Georgetown was third in the 18-school fleet with 78 points.
Hawai'i's A team Bryan Lake and Jennifer Warnock placed first in two of six races to score a low-best 21 points in its division.
The Rainbows' B team Joey Pasquali, Matt Stine, Carly Allen, Cassandra Harris and Jeffrey Boyd had the division's second-best score of 33 points.

UH's Berger earns academic honors: University of Hawai'i runner Carolyn Berger has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America District VIII second team.
Berger, a senior middle-distance runner, had a 3.93 grade point average in political science.
Oregon's Eri MacDonald, a 1999 Punahou graduate, also earned second-team distinction. The journalism major had a 3.72 GPA.
SOCCER
Punahou's Lipsher one of nation's best: Punahou senior goalkeeper Allison Lipsher was named a top 50 U.S. high school recruit by Soccer Buzz Magazine.
Lipsher, the Advertiser's All-State Player of the Year, was selected to the NSCAA/adidas Youth All-American team last year and will play for Duke in the fall.
She will play in the McDonald's All-America game in Carson, Calif., on June 13.
