Advertiser Staff
A 23.3 percent increase in visitor arrivals helped statewide hotel occupancy improve by 24.4 percent for the week ended May 29, according to Hospitality Advisors LLC. The strong occupancy increase reflects a 44.6 percent recovery in Japanese arrivals and a 18 percent increase in U.S. arrivals from a much softer May last year due to SARS. Statewide room rates also increased by 10.3 percent to $155.13. Maui led statewide occupancy with a 12 percent gain to 80 percent. Maui had the highest average daily rate at $179.50.
