Church concert set for June 19

A free praise and worship concert with five local church groups will be held at 6 p.m. June 19 at Leeward Community College Theatre.
Participating church groups are: Pearl City Community Church; Tongan United Church of Christ; Samoan United Church of Christ; Catholic Life Band; and the LCC Catholic Club. Saxophonist George Cristobal and singer Aaron Agsalda will make guest appearances in the concert, sponsored by the LCC Catholic Club.

Thai Buddhist lecture June 28
Nobel Peace Prize nominee Sulak Sivaraksa, a 71-year-old Thai Buddhist who speaks on socially engaged Buddhism, is making a return visit to Hawai'i this month.
He'll be giving a free lecture on "Being Buddhist in the 21st Century: The Way of Compassion," at 7 p.m. June 28 at the Jodo Mission of Hawai'i, 1429 Makiki St.
The author, activist and speaker was the featured lecturer for the inaugural Reverend Yoshiaki Fujitani Interfaith Program in February at Chaminade University.
Sivaraksa is returning to Hawai'i on his way back from teaching on the Mainland.
The program is organized by the Hawaii Association of International Buddhists and Jodo Mission.

Taoist master to talk on dying
St. Francis Hospice is offering a free workshop, "Chinese Religious Death and Dying Traditions and Customs in Hawai'i," with a Taoist master, the Rev. Duane J.L. Pang, at 9 a.m. June 25 at Borthwick Mortuary, 1330 Maunakea St.
Pang will give an overview of the integration of Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism in Chinese culture; explain local Taoist practices that differ from mainland China's; describe the importance of Chinese acceptance and preparation for death from the significant age of 61; and discuss filial piety and Chinese religious rites and rituals.
