KFVE will air Miss Hawai'i pageant

Advertiser Staff

Thirteen Island women are vying in this year's Miss Hawai'i pageant, set for 7:30 p.m. June 18 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom. KFVE (K5 The Home Team) will cover the event live (with a re-telecast at 10 p.m. June 19 on KFVE), with sister station news anchor Howard Dashefsky of KHNL-8 hosting.

Angela Perez Baraquio was Miss America in 2000.

The winner will advance to the Miss America Pageant in September in Atlantic City.

This year's contenders are: Amber Stone, Miss Honolulu; Chanelle Kukona, Miss VIP; Kellie Peterson, Miss East O'ahu; Liana Green, Miss Island O'ahu; Lilinoi Grace, Miss Kona Coffee; Lyanna Tumaneng, Miss Island 'Ilima; Lysha Kamisato, Miss Maui; Malika Dudley, Miss Leeward; Mi Nei Oliver, Miss Garden Isle; Olena Rubin, Miss West O'ahu; Radasha Ho'ohuli, Miss Kahala; Sheri Canopin, Miss Kaua'i; and Trisha Barbosa, Miss North Shore.

The local pageant offers nearly $100,000 in scholarships and tuition grants. Contestants will compete in swimsuit, talent, evening wear — with an interview segment as well.

Hawai'i has had two Miss America winners over the years — Carolyn Sapp in 1991 and Angela Perez Baraquio in 2000. Last year's Miss Hawai'i, Kanoelani Gibson, was first runner-up and a preliminary talent winner.
