'Potter' performs box-office magic
"Harry Potter" failed to ward off the spell of "Spider-Man" in 2002 or the $108 million debut of "Shrek 2" last month, but it did its own personal best. "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" launched the series in November 2001 with a $90.3 million debut on its way to a $317.6 million total. Tickets are $35, $50 and $100 for the fund-raiser. The show starts at 7 p.m. and Chan promises to sing a couple of tunes. Call the Blaisdell box office, (877) 750-4400, or see www.ticketmaster.com. The film opens nationwide on June 16.
Chan's appearance coincides with the grand opening events this week at his Ala Moana Center restaurant. (Yes, we know it opened in December, but it's his show). That shindig, alas, is private.
