In an O'ahu Interscholastic Association East Division loaded with talented players, Farrington senior forward Sunshine Misa-Uli shined the brightest after an all-star vote of league coaches.

Misa-Uli won the honor over another member of the 2003 Advertiser All-State first team, Kahuku senior Latoya Wily.

After winning her second straight state wrestling championship at 189 pounds, Misa-Uli started the basketball season slowly, scoring only six points in the Governors' regular-season opener against Kahuku.

But she quickly caught fire, scoring at least 12 points in each of the remaining nine games and finishing with a 16.6 points-per-game average.

In two of her best games, she scored 18 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and had eight blocks in a victory over Kailua and poured in 39 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and dished out eight assists in a win over Kaimuki.

She is joined on the first team by Wily, McKinley senior guard Bre Carson, Moanalua senior guard Kepua Lee and Kaiser sophomore forward Sharde Pratt.

Wily was a dominant presence in the post, averaging 18.9 points per game.

In the Red Raiders' 66-48 victory over McKinley for the OIA championship, Wily scored 24 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots to lead Kahuku to its first league title since 1994.

Carson led McKinley's dangerous 3-point attack, averaging 13.2 points per game and sinking an astounding 36 shots from beyond the arc. In a victory over Kaimuki, Carson drained seven 3-pointers.

Mann

Lee was a steadying force for a Moanalua team that suffered heavy losses to graduation following an OIA championship season in 2003.

Pratt averaged 13.3 points per game in leading a youthful Kaiser squad to a surprising 9-2 (second-place) finish in the East.

Kaiser's Lisa Mann was named Coach of the Year.
