Box jellyfish set to return

City lifeguards are warning that box jellyfish will be back at O'ahu beaches, just in time for the holiday weekend.

A box jelly advisory has been issued for Friday and Saturday. The cityâs Ocean Safety Division said that swimmers who get allergic reactions to the stinging jellyfish should stay out of the water, especially Saturday when the numbers of jellyfish are expected to peak.

By Monday the monthly jellyfish invasion should be almost over, the city said.

The most commonly affected areas are Waikiki Beach, Hanauma Bay, Pokai Bay and Makaha surfing beach and Waimea Bay.

Boy arrested in assault on jogger

Police arrested a 16-year-old boy last night on suspicion of mugging a woman jogger at Ala Moana Park.

The youth allegedly accosted the jogger, 57, at about 8:15 p.m. and attempted to drag her into an unlit area. The woman resisted and two witnesses who heard her screams for help scared off the youth.

Police bike officers spotted the fleeing youth and arrested him on Kamake'e Street.

Man found dead in home is ID'd

A 61-year-old man whose body was discovered last Wednesday in his Sunset Beach home was identified today by the medical examiner's office as Percy Baker. An autopsy determined that Baker was murdered and died of stab wounds to the chest.

2 hospitalized in head-on crash

A man and woman were injured early today in a head-on collision on Farrington Highway near Honokai Hale when their pickup truck was struck by a sports utility vehicle operated by a 34-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

The 1:24 a.m. collision occurred between La'aloa and Waiomea streets. Westbound lanes on Farrington Highway were closed for several hours until police completed their investigation.

Investigators said a westbound 1988 Chevy pickup truck driven by a Wai'anae man, 49, was struck by a 1993 Nissan Pathfinder that was in the wrong lane. Patrol officers were responding to the Kahe Point area to investigate complaints of a speeding Pathfinder headed east on the wrong side of Farrington Highway when the collision occurred, investigators said.

The pickup truck driver and a woman passenger were taken to The Queenâs Medical Center, where their conditions are guarded and stable, respectively.

Drugs, money seized in raid

Police seized two pounds of marijuana, 17 grams of cocaine, nearly $15,000 in cash and a car for forfeiture in a raid yesterday on an 18th-floor Ala Wai Plaza unit at 500 University Ave. Two men, ages 23 and 22, were arrested in the 6:35 a.m. raid. The marijuana and cocaine have street-sale value of $37,400 and $2,000, respectively, police said.

In addition to multiple drug charges, which include first-degree promotion of detrimental and dangerous drugs, the two men were booked for promoting drugs within 1,000 feet of a school. The allegedly sold drugs to undercover officers 750 feet from Ala Wai School, located at 503 Kamoku St.
