Child badly hurt in Waipahu fall
A 4-year-old girl was seriously injured yesterday when she fell from a third-floor unit of a building in an apartment complex at 94-245 Leowahine St. in Waipahu. The girl was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition, according to Emergency Medical Services workers.
A resident of a ground-floor unit in the building found the girl at 5 a.m., said Pearl City police Sgt. Clayton Chung.
The girl's parents were at work and she had been left in the care of her grandmother, who was asleep when the girl apparently climbed onto glass jalousies in another room.
Chung said the girl fell through the window.

Man questioned on kidnapping
Police arrested a 36-year-old man in Wahiawa yesterday on suspicion of kidnapping a woman and attempting to rape her in a pineapple field on May 27. The woman, 37, called police after spotting the man driving in Wahiawa. The man was located at 2:50 a.m. on California Avenue and arrested for questioning.

Woman, 44, dies after car crash
A 44-year-old woman injured Thursday in a car crash in Chinatown died early Friday at The Queen's Medical Center. The medical examiner's office said Yolanda DeCosta died at 12:58 a.m.
Lt. Bennett Martin, supervisor of police vehicular homicide investigations, said the woman's car veered off and struck a parked car at 3:45 p.m. on North Kukui Street, 102 feet east of Maunakea Street.
Determination of the cause of death has been deferred, pending further tests.
Bicyclist hurt in crash with truck
A bicyclist in his 20s was critically injured yesterday after crossing into the path of a pickup at the intersection of Alakoa and Malia streets in Wai'alae Nui, police said.. The man was traveling southbound on Alakoa Street at about 1 p.m. when he rode through a stop sign, failed to complete a right turn onto Malia Street and collided with an eastbound black Chevy Silverado pickup driven by a 57-year-old Kapolei man, police said.
The bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition with multiple injuries, police said.

Driver-licensing location closed
The driver license office operating out of the Kane'ohe police station will close for 2 1/2 months for renovation beginning June 21. It is expected to reopen Sept. 7. During the closure, drivers may renew licenses or apply for duplicates at the Windward Mall satellite city hall, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Applicants wishing to take the road test must go to driver license stations in Wahiawa, Wai'anae, Pearl City, Waiakamilo or Kapolei between 7:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Appointments are advisable. MAUI
OHA helps farm project
Kapahulu 'Ohana, a nonprofit group dedicated to the perpetuation of Hawaiian culture and the promotion of cultural economic opportunities, has been awarded a grant to support its Kapahu Living Farm project. The Office of Hawaiian Affairs issued the $45,455 for the farm, a living history project within Haleakala National Park. The farm includes more than an acre of ancient taro patches that have been restored and returned to traditional organic production of taro and other Polynesian introduced crops. A traditional hale serves as a space for educational activities; the 'ohana hosts educational tours, interpretive hikes, workdays and other activities. Information: Call (808) 248-8673.
