BYUH water polo star feted

Brigham Young-Hawai'i men's water polo player Vanja Kalabic has been named to the Daktronics District VIII At-Large All-Academic Team by the College Sports Information Directors Association.

Kalabic carries a 3.60 grade point average while majoring in international business management.

Kalabic, a junior from Belgrade, Yugoslavia, led the Seasiders last fall to a 15-7 record and a top 20 national ranking by scoring 75 goals (3.4 per game) and was named a first-team NCAA II All-American for the third consecutive year. He has scored 243 goals during his three seasons at BYU-Hawai'i.

The entire BYU-Hawai'i team was honored earlier this year by the Collegiate Water Polo Association for being an All-American Academic team.

BYUH men sign transfer for fall

The Brigham Young-Hawai'i men's water polo team recently signed transfer utility player Lars Nordstrom to play in the fall.

Nordstrom, a former first-team All-Monterey Bay League star while at San Benito High School in California, played one semester at the University of the Pacific before serving a two-year mission in Romania for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Nordstrom, from Hollister, Calif., is 6 feet 5 1/2 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds and is left-handed.

During his senior year at San Benito, Nordstrom was named team Most Valuable Player and was first-team All-League for three consecutive years.
