Entry deadline closing in for U.S. Senior qualifying

Wednesday is the entry deadline for the 2004 U.S. Senior Open Sectional Qualifying tournament, scheduled for July 2 at Barbers Point Golf Course.

Applications are available at local courses, from the Hawai'i State Golf Association, or can be downloaded from the U.S. Golf Association Web site (usga.org). Golfers can also apply online.

The event is open to any professional or amateur with a Handicap Index not exceeding 3.4, who turns 50 on or before July 29.

This year's U.S. Senior Open will be July 29 to Aug. 1 at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis.

Shamble tourney raises $165,000

The 10th annual AT&T Hawai'i-REHAB Shamble Tournament raised $165,000 last month, bringing the 10-year total to $1,082,122.

The event benefits Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific. Former REHAB patient Mark Chun, one of the state's finest amateur golfers, was honorary chair.
