Cooper seeks title in shooto match

Two world championship shooto matches will highlight the Soljah Fight Night July 9 at the Blaisdell Arena.

Local fighter Ray Cooper will face current champion Jake Shields for the world middleweight championship match. Other fighters scheduled to compete include Masanori Suda, who knocked out Hawai'i fighter Egan Inouye in 26 seconds in a previous fight, current shooto lightweight world champion Alexandre Franca Nogueria, Stephen Palling, Mark Moreno and Deshaun Johnson.

Shooto is a full contact, mixed martial art developed in Japan during the early 1980s.

A portion of the ticket sales from the event will benefit the Hawai'i National Guard Youth Challenge Academy.

All-star Lipsher plays in televised match

The third annual McDonald's All-America High School Girls Soccer Game, which will include recent Punahou graduate Allison Lipsher, will be televised on College Sports Television, Sunday at 11 a.m. Hawai'i time.

CSTV is available on Oceanic's digital lineup on channel 247 or on DirecTV, channel 610.

The boys game follows at 1 p.m.

Lipsher, a goalkeeper, was the Advertiser's State Player of the Year. She will attend Duke University in the fall.

Pacific Cup begins tomorrow at Waipi'o

The Pacific Cup, hosted by the Vaiete Soccer Club, starts tomorrow and runs through Sunday at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Complex.

The Pacific Cup, with four divisions and 20 teams, includes teams from Leahi, Mililani Soccer Club, HSC Bulls and Vaiete and three teams from California. There are women's open, men's open, men's over 30 and men's over 40 divisions.

Games start at 4 p.m. tomorrow and run all day Saturday and Sunday. There will also be a youth soccer festival from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Registration open for Rainbow youth camp

Registration for the University of Hawai'i Rainbow boys and girls basketball camp is open.

The camp is geared for participants ages 6 to 17.

The first session for boys and girls, ages 6 to 12, runs June 15 to 17 and costs $75. The second session for girls, ages 12 to 17, runs June 18 to 20 and costs $100.

Participants will receive a basketball and T-shirt.

The camp will be run by former UH women's basketball head coach Vince Goo, and his staff, as well as current and former players. Walk-up registration will be accepted. Information: 956-2710.
