2 Hawai'i firms picked for military contracts
Advertiser Staff
Two Hawai'i construction companies yesterday were selected by the Department of Defense to work on waterfront improvement projects at local military sites.
'Aiea-based Healy Tibbitts Builders and Honolulu firm Hawaiian Dredging Construction Co. each were promised $25,000 of work in the next year, though the contractors could be called on to do as much as $50 million of work a year for five years, or $250 million each.
A third company, Nova Group out of Napa, Calif., was also included in the contract, brining the total maximum value to $750 million. The three contractors could compete against each other for any work beyond the first $25,000.
Actual contract values are expected to be announced when work orders are assigned. The contract broadly covers wharf design and construction, dredging and other work primarily at Pearl Harbor.
