'Survivor' tryouts return to Hawai'i

By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Writer

Dust off those survival instincts and ramp up your creative juices: Hawai'i residents have another chance to audition for CBS' "Survivor" reality series, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 19 at Ala Moana's Centerstage.

Applicants should download regulations and forms at kgmb.com so they can fill out the lengthy paperwork in advance of the tryouts. It's also possible to pick up information at local Subway restaurants, a sponsor of the auditions.

KCCN-FM also is cooperating with a live broadcast next June 19 from Centerstage.

Applicants must be 21 or older, be willing to travel to an undisclosed remote location for seven weeks starting in mid-October and undergo the arduous task of outlasting other contestants before the TV cameras. Because of the impromptu nature of the show, candidates also should have an active passport or begin the process of obtaining one at the time of the initial interview.

Auditioners will have two to three minutes to tell KGMB-9 camera crews why they should be on "Survivor." KGMB will package all recorded entries, then send them to CBS; those who prefer to video their own interviews should drop them off at the audition site.
