3 left in running for Kaua'i police chief

Advertiser Staff

The number of candidates for the position of Kaua'i police chief has been narrowed to three: interim Kaua'i Police Chief K.C. Lum, retired Honolulu Police Major Darryl Perry of O'ahu and Kaua'i police Lt. Regina Ventura.

The Kaua'i Police Commission began its selection process in February and conducted applicant interviews in May.

Police Commission Chairman Victor Punua said six qualified candidates applied for the position, five of them Hawai'i residents and one from the Mainland.

The selection process will continue for several more weeks, Punua said.

Former Police Chief George Freitas retired in October after accepting a $200,000 buyout from the county.
