Controlled burn at Schofield
Army fire specialists will conduct a prescribed burn this week in a 200-acre section of the West Range impact area at Schofield Barracks.
Depending on the weather, burning may start as early as tomorrow and last until Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m each day.
The area, known as McCarthy Flats or the West Range Training Area, is north of Kolekole and Trimble roads and west of Maile Terrace, Kolekole Ridge and Hendrickson Heights.
The fires are part of the Army's plan to manage range areas, decrease the chance of wildfires, clear unexploded ordnance and provide access for cultural surveys.
A similar burn was conducted last June.
