TSA plans job fairs to recruit screeners for Kona airport

Advertiser Staff

The Transportation Security Administration is looking to fill up to 60 part-time positions at Kona International Airport, officials said this week.

TSA officials are conducting job fairs through Friday in Kona for those interested in the jobs.

The recruitment drive comes several weeks after federal officials said they were stepping up hiring at three Hawai'i airports.

Nationwide, TSA officials said earlier this year they were cutting jobs to meet a congressionally mandated cap of 45,000 full-time job equivalents. However, a review of staffing needs determined that Kona, as well as airports in Honolulu and Lihu'e, were among the places where new hires would be needed, officials said.

The part-time positions pay between $13.16 and $19.76 per hour, including a federal cost-of-living allowance, and have the possibility of developing into full-time positions, TSA officials said.

The recruitment center at 74-5620 Palani Road will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and Thursday, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
