Volunteer effort to be discussed
A free lunch will be served at an informational meeting Saturday to let residents know what's happening in Kane'ohe and recruit volunteers for community organizations.
The meeting will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden.
The session will include presentations on activities in Ho'omaluhia, environmental and social service projects in Kane'ohe and Kahalu'u, Windward cultural activities, and information about the Windward Ahupua'a Alliance, the lunch meeting sponsor.

Makiki plan on board agenda
A presentation on the Makiki Community Plan will be held during the Makiki/Lower Punchbowl/Tantalus Neighborhood Board meeting at 7:15 p.m. tomorrow at the Makiki District Park arts and crafts building.
Makiki residents are being asked to help develop a long-range plan to guide development. The plan is divided into three areas: Makiki-lower Punchbowl, lower Makiki, and Makiki Heights-Tantalus.
Topics include building heights, park space, sidewalk improvements, street parking and hillside development.

HPD storefront office opens
The Honolulu Police Department opened an office in Hawai'i Kai yesterday.
The storefront office, next to the satellite city hall in Hawai'i Kai Corporation Plaza, will be operated around the clock, seven days a week.
"I know the community has wanted us out here for a long time," said Chief Lee Donohue. "And I'm glad that we were able to find a workable solution."
