Father's Day isn't quite the boon to the restaurant industry that Mother's Day is because many families choose to celebrate at home with a pulehu party featuring Dad at the hibachi. Still, some dads would rather go out than eat in as long as the menu is manly, and restaurants are gearing up with specials this Sunday. Here's a sampling; check with your favorites:

The Parc Cafe in the Waikiki Parc Hotel, popular for its affordable, local-friendly buffets, is offering a dinner buffet with seatings at 5 or 7:30 p.m. and including a made-to-order poke bar ('ahi, steak, tako or shrimp with assorted marinades), oysters on the half shell and fresh sashimi as the first course. The dinner portion of the menu includes a prime-rib carving station and "action stations" for various seafood entrées. Hot selections range the globe and a full line of salads are promised. For dessert, there's the create-your-own sundae option as well as mac-nut bars, molten chocolate cake and liliko'i bars, among other selections. The full buffet is $34.95 for adults; children ages 5-10 pay $1 per year of their age; very little ones are free. The meal includes coffee, hot or iced tea or fruit punch. Reservations: 921-7272.

Plantation Cafe at the Ala Moana Hotel is doing one of its trademark buffets — but this one's for brunch, and Dad gets a 50-percent discount with the purchase of one other regularly priced buffet (no proof of paternity is required). The brunch features seafood (Alaskan king crab legs, New Zealand oysters on the half-shell, shrimp, sashimi, 'ahi poke and assorted sushi), prime rib, baked ham with ginger-liliko'i glaze, Belgian waffles and omelets made to order, plus hot entrées such as furikake-crusted salmon, pork spareribs and Italian-style oxtail stew. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ala Moana Hotel, 401 Atkinson Drive. The full brunch for adults is $27.50; $13.50 for children 12 and younger; dads half off with purchase of one full brunch. Reservations: 955-4811.

L'Uraku is offering special menu items for Father's Day lunch or dinner on Sunday — for the dad with refined tastes, an interest in East-West cuisine and a desire to sip some nice wines with his special meal. Among the dinner specials: soft-shell crab tempura, mini osso buco and daikon "nitsuke," seared scallops, filet mignon with mustard ponzu butter. At lunch, look for some of the same items, but also ocean-raised moi "in a pouch" or rib-eye steak. Items are á la carte; entrées are in the $20 range for lunch, $20s to low $40s for dinner. Reservations: 955-0552.

Chai's Island Bistro in the Aloha Tower Marketplace is planning a Father's Day brunch featuring all-you-can-eat prawns, a Thai-influenced East-West buffet and entertainment by the singing group Na Palapalai. Brunch is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; $39.95 for adults; half-price for kids 12 and younger. Reservations: 585-0011.

Little Village Noodle House in Chinatown is doing set dinners for four ($69.95), six ($99.95) or 10 ($168) featuring such dishes as pecan spinach salad, honey walnut shrimp, steamed pork hash and a special dessert. Reservations: 545-3008.

And if you're determined to stay home but don't want to cook, consider Kelvin Ro's elaborate take-out meal for eight from Diamond Head Market and Grill, 3575 Campbell Ave. (off Monsarrat). Ro reports that his Mother's Day Brunch in a box sold out. The Father's Day dinner includes Slow-Cooked Beef Pot Roast or Roasted Tarragon Chicken with Sherry-Shallot Mushroom Sauce, a poke and shrimp cocktail platter, Caesar salad, roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, house-made olive bread with garlic butter and pecan pie. The meal is $160. Today is the last day for orders: 732-0077.
