50th State Fair's final weekend

The annual 50th State Fair wraps up its run this weekend at the Aloha Stadium. Here's your last chance to get in on the rides, games, World of Wonders sideshow, Bengal tiger show and Drop Zone thrill ride. Goodies this weekend include a Garfield appearance 1-3 p.m. Saturday-Sunday and a car giveaway Sunday. Teens 18 and younger can head down from 7 to 11 tonight for the 808 Teen Zone Dance Party sponsored by MADD-Hawaii. Cover is $2. General admission to the fair is $3 adults, $2 children 4-11 and free for 3 and younger. Sunday is a Pepsi Day: Bring in a Pepsi can from noon to 6 p.m. and pay 50 cents for admission. That drum beat

The Planet of the Drums Tour lands in Honolulu Saturday, bringing drum-n-bass specialists AK1200, Dara and Dieselboy, along with MC J-Messinian. It happens 9 p.m.-2 a.m. at Studio 1. PetWalk for people and pals

Animal lovers, gather 'round for the Hawaiian Humane Society's 14th annual PetWalk, happening Sunday. Whether or not you have a pet, everyone is encouraged to come out for this pledge-based event to raise money for the society's programs and services. The two-mile course meanders through Magic Island and Ala Moana Park, with a mini-course for short-legged pets. There will also be pet costume and tail-wagging contests, plus refreshments for all. Drop off pledges starting at 7 a.m.; the walk begins at 8. www.hawaiianhumane.org.


Music under the moon

Bishop Museum kicks off its popular Moonlight Mele on the Lawn summer concert series with the Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning falsetto styles of Na Palapalai. To add to the night's festivities, exhibits in the Castle Memorial Building and Hawaiian Hall will be open until 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. Thursday, with the music beginning at 7. Admission is $15 general, $10 for Bank of Hawaii customers, employees and Bishop Museum members, and $5 for ages 4-12. 847-3511.


The art of the horse

Explore the world of arts at the latest interactive presentation from The Contemporary Museum, "Art Off the Wall: Horse Stories." Performers Jeff Gere and James McCarthy offer comedy and music to give the exhibits at the museum speech, song, story and step — in essence, to bring the art off the wall. This month's performances honor the horse sculptures of artist Deborah Butterfield.

Performances for groups of at least 10 people can be seen at 9, 10:30 a.m. and noon Tuesday-June 25. Admission is $3 per child. Public performances for all ages are at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. June 26, at $10 general or $5 for members of the museum. 526-1322, ext. 30.


Celebrating at Windward Mall

The Young Okinawans of Hawaii celebrate everything summer at the second annual Windward Mall Summer Festival, 4-9 p.m. Saturday. Taking place in the mall parking lot at the corner of Ha'iku Road and Kamehameha Highway, the festival features food, eisa and taiko drumming, bon dance by the Yamada Dance Group, Iwakuni Dance Club, Ukwanshin Kabudan, Ryuku Performing Arts Group and the Young Okinawans of Hawaii. There'll be Hawaiian entertainment by Na Kapuna O Koolau and an Okinawan performance by tje Paranku Club of Hawaii. A culture and craft fair offers T-shirts, ikebana and jewelry. Tribute to McGarrett

A tribute to "Hawaii Five-O" star Jack Lord will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at Kahala Mall with former cast members and fans coming in for the ceremony. The event features an unveiling of a commemorative bronze bust at the Macy's end of the mall near the trolley stop, and the University of Hawai'i band will play the show's theme song as Ka Hale I o Kahala Halau Hula performs. Artist Lynn Weiler Liverton created the bust. Lord, who played Steve McGarrett on the popular police drama, was a regular at the mall and lived in Kahala after the series ended. 732-7736, ext. 11.


'Out of this World!' continues

Don your astronaut helmets as Sesame Street Live continues its adventure into outer space at "Out of This World!" The lovable gang of Big Bird, Elmo, Bert and Ernie, Cookie Monster and Zoe join forces to help the otherworldly passengers of a spaceship that crashes on Sesame Street. The journey continues at the Blaisdell Concert Hall at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. today, Thursday and June 25, and at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday-Sunday and June 26-27. Tickets are $11, $15 and $19. Harvest crusade begins Thursday

Hailed by Billy Graham as "the evangelist of the future," pastor Greg Laurie hosts the seventh Harvest Hawaii Crusade starting Thursday and continuing through June 27 at the Waikiki Shell. The four-night event starts at 7 each evening and features a mix of faith, extreme sports and Christian music with Crystal Lewis, The Katinas, Kutless, Doyle Dykes, Kapena and 7 Simple Pieces. The New Hope Hula Halau also performs. On June 26, from 2 to 5:30 p.m., the Harvest hosts a Summerfest for youth at Kapi'olani Park. Summerfest also features extreme sports, then makes way for the Harvest Jam at 7 p.m. at the Waikiki Shell with entertainment by 7 Simple Pieces, Tyler Nakamura, Battle Royale, Kutmaster Spaz, Trisha Nakamoto and Koa Siu.
