ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Wet chameleon ceiling paint

Advertiser Staff

Arrggh! You've just finished painting the ceiling and look up to see you've missed spots. But Glidden's Ceiling Paint with EZ Track Technology goes on pink and dries white, so there are no more recoats or touch-ups. Premixed, the formula features a colorant that appears pink at application but turns bright white within 30 minutes. Its shelf life is about two years, and it sells for $16 to $18 at the Home Depot and Painters Warehouse on O'ahu. Or call (800) 454-3336 or visit www.glidden.com for locations.

How to become a syntax survivor

Using proper punctuation doesn't have to be painful.

Grammar Survival Kit — a class that demystifies grammar, punctuation and word usage for writing and everyday speech — will run Monday to July 19 at Windward Community College.

Instructor Libby Young is a journalism professor. The noncredit course meets 5:30 to 7 p.m. Mondays and costs $100, which includes materials.

To register, call 235-7433.

'My Interned Youth' as an AJA

Patricia Kirita Nomura was just 9 when she was taken from her Big Island elementary school and shipped to an internment camp in Jerome, Ark., during World War II. She'll talk about that during her free lecture, "My Interned Youth at Arkansas and Arizona," at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i, 2454 S. Beretania St.

It's the kickoff to a lecture series that's part of the exhibit "Dark Clouds Over Paradise: The Hawai'i Internees Story," in the center's gallery, showing how Hawai'i detainees passed their time behind barbed wire. Information: 945-7633, www.jcch.com.
