Jack Johnson will perform in Isles

By Derek Paiva
Advertiser Entertainment Writer

If Jack Johnson was your North Shore surf buddy, this would be the backyard singalong and home-movie screening of the summer. The North Shore singer/filmmaker will perform a solo acoustic show and host a screening of his new surf documentary "A Broke Down Melody" on Aug. 10 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center and Aug. 11 at the Hawai'i Theatre. The film was shot by Johnson and his collective of camera-toting surf fanatics, The Moonshine Conspiracy, on a wave excursion to Chile in May. Johnson even recorded a handful of new songs for the film. Tickets for the 8 p.m. Hawai'i Theatre show go on sale July 10 at the theatre box office, by phone at 528-0506 or online at www.hawaiitheatre.com. Prices are $28 and $38. Call (808) 242-7469 for Maui show information. Fellow surf-folk singer/songwriter Donavon Frankenreiter performs at both shows.
