2 golfers win junior titles

Jacob Low and Mari Chun won the Westfield Junior Aloha Section PGA Championship yesterday at the Turtle Bay Resort's Fazio Course.

Low, a 16-year-old from Hilo, shot a 3-under-par 69 yesterday to finish at 139, two strokes ahead of 2003 champion Travis Toyama, who shot a 73 yesterday. Chun, a 16-year-old Kamehameha student, shot 74 yesterday for a 144. Kellie Nakashima (71) was second at 145.

Low and Chun qualified for the national Westfield Junior PGA Championship, July 14 to 17, at Westfield Group Country Club in Westfield Center, Ohio.

Hawai'i players ready for Utah's Kava Bowl

Eleven graduating seniors from Hawai'i will be playing in the second annual All-American Kava Bowl today in Salt Lake City.

The game features a team of Utah all-stars against a team of players from other states called the Pac-10 All-Americans.

The Hawai'i players: End Desmond Hanohano and defensive lineman Tavita Thompson of Saint Louis; offensive linemen Lincoln and Lehi Kakiva, and linebacker Lino Kakiva, all brothers, of Radford; Pac-Five lineman Dustin Pilialoha; McKinley defensive lineman Randy Faletoi; Waipahu lineman Curtis Masaniai, Nanakuli lineman Keala Watson; 'Aiea linebacker Lawrence Leovao; and Kahuku defensive back Afa Garrigan.
