Keeping an eye on summer kids
Washington Post
What are your summer plans? Here's how kids ages 6 to 12 spend much of the summer if their primary caretaker (usually mom) works. (Note: Some kids are in more than one category.)
- Cared for by relative, 34 percent.
- Cared for by a parent or have another arrangement, 30 percent.
- Day camps/recreation programs, 24 percent.
- Cared for by nonrelative in their own home or at baby sitter's, 14 percent.
- Take care of themselves, 11 percent.
- Summer school, 6 percent.
