Bridal care of contact lenses

Shedding a few tears during a wedding is nothing unusual — especially for the bride. However, if a bride wears contact lenses, she may need to take extra care with makeup selection and application.

The American Optometric Association recommends choosing a water-based, hypo-allergenic liquid foundation, to prevent leaving a film on lenses. Avoid lash-extending mascara, which has fibers that can irritate the eyes, and waterproof mascara, which cannot be easily removed with water and may stain soft contact lenses.

Use an oil-free moisturizer and keep false eyelash cement, nail polish and remover and perfume, which can damage the plastic, away from lenses. Hairspray should be used before putting in contacts. Put on soft contact lenses before applying makeup. Rigid lenses should go on after makeup.
