Slain fugitive used ice, examiner says

Morse
Gordon Morse, the fugitive who died in a shootout with police in Palama June 17, had crystal methamphetamine in his system, according to the city medical examiner's office.

A preliminary drug screen detected ice in Morse's system and a complete toxicology report that will detail the exact amount of the drug in his system will be performed on the Mainland, the medical examiner's office said yesterday.

Morse was killed in a shootout outside a third-floor apartment at Mayor Wright Homes. A police officer was wounded.



Man, 23, arrested in sexual assault

A 23-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy in a restroom on Bishop Street. The man was booked on first-degree sex assault.



Missing woman found at IHS

A missing Waipahu woman was found Wednesday at the Institute for Human Services.

Kimberly "Desiree" Marshall, who requires daily medication, had become disoriented late Monday near the Pagoda Hotel after a dinner with her father and wandered around until someone directed her to IHS, police said.

Marshall was examined at The Queen's Medical Center Wednesday and sent home, police said.



3 stranded hikers get back safely

Three stranded hikers were brought out safely Wednesday night from the top of Waimano Home Road above Pearl City by fire rescue specialists.

Two men and a woman had been reported missing about 8 p.m. They used a camera flash to alert rescuers in a helicopter to their position, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Kenison Tejada said.

The uninjured hikers were brought out at 10 p.m., Tejada said.
