Fireworks going on sale next week

Advertiser Staff

Fourth of July fireworks go on sale Tuesday at licensed retail locations around O'ahu, fire department officials said.

A permit costing $25, obtained at any satellite city hall, is required for the purchase of up to 5,000 non-aerial common fireworks, or firecrackers. Permits are not required for novelty fireworks such as sparklers, jumping jacks and fountains.

The use of aerial fireworks is prohibited unless the Honolulu Fire Department issues a public display permit.

Multiple fireworks permits may be purchased. The fee is non-refundable and the permit must be used within the year issued and for only the designated holiday.

Fireworks may be set off only between 1 and 9 p.m. on July 4, officials said.
