Bank stock hits $91.03 a share

Shares of CB Bancshares, the Honolulu-based parent of City Bank, rose to a 52-week high yesterday. The stock hit a high of $91.05 before closing at $91.03, up $2.32. The bank, which is the midst of a merger with Central Pacific Financial Corp., ended the trading day with a market cap of $401 million, up 2.6 percent.



Delegation going to Taipei

A delegation will travel from Hawai'i to the Global Recreation Symposium in Taipei, where a Hawai'i chapter will host Taiwanese government and tourism officials and industry leaders to promote Hawai'i as a leader in tourism planning and development.

The symposium will be held Monday and Tuesday. The delegation will comprise representatives from the University of Hawai'i's School of Travel Industry Management, Gregg Yamanaka of the training company TeraBiz and others.

Yamanaka will also present seminars at the BizTravel Show in Beijing Wednesday through Saturday.



Sports tourism encouraged

David Carey, chief executive of Outrigger Enterprises Inc., told Hawaii Hotel & Lodging Association members at a conference yesterday of his ideas for a Hawai'i sports tourism development entity to focus on bringing sporting events to Hawai'i.

He said that Hawai'i's year-round good weather is a competitive advantage and sports can attract more first-time visitors, but that the state needs better facilities, should do more to bring in business and needs better coordination between government and business.

Companies and entrepreneurs can connect with investors at the sixth annual Wayne Brown Institute Investors Choice Venture Capital Conference Sept. 22-23 at the Wailea Marriott on Maui.
