University of Hawai'i quarterback Tim Chang has been invited to play in the 80th East-West Shrine Game for college football standouts.
The 80th East-West Shrine Game will be played Jan. 15, 2005, at SBC Park in San Francisco.
"He's on course to be one of the best quarterbacks here and one of the most prolific quarterbacks in the history of college football," said Dan Morrison, who coaches the UH quarterbacks. "He's trying to focus down to have a great senior season. We're all hoping for that, too."
Chang, a Saint Louis School alum and fifth-year senior from Mililani, has amassed 12,814 career passing yards since enrolling at UH in August 2000. He needs 2,218 passing yards to break Ty Detmer's NCAA record of 15,031 career yards. Chang is on track to break the record in the middle of the 2004 season.
Chang, who is 6 feet 2 and 205 pounds, completed his junior season by throwing for 475 yards and five touchdowns in the Warriors' 54-48 victory over Houston in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl last Christmas.
Chang also is expected to be invited to compete in the 2005 Hula Bowl on Maui.
