Within hours of the security breach at Kahului Airport yesterday, officials took steps to ensure the airport in Honolulu was not vulnerable to a similar situation.

"Water barriers and concrete barrier were installed in areas where you could walk from the street to the lobby," said state Transportation Director Rod Haraga.
Workers put up concrete barriers in front of the glass entrance doors at the interisland terminal in Honolulu after yesterday's incident.
The new barriers were added only on the second floor, he said, because walls and pillars already in place on the first floor made that lobby area more secure.
The new barriers won't interfere with traffic through the airport, he said, "unless you're trying to drive a vehicle into the lobby."
Transportation officials will also examine other airports in the state for vulnerabilities to attack by automobiles, he said.
"We just wanted to make sure we looked first at the high traffic area," he said.
