Joe Moore growing into new theater role

TUBE TALK: If you think Joe Moore, the KHON-2 news anchor, is looking a little heavier, you're right. Moore, prepping for "The Honeymooners: The Lost Episodes," in which he and Army buddy Pat Sajak (yep, the "Wheel of Fortune" host) will play Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton (the roles originated by Jackie Gleason and Art Carney), has been on an eating binge. Not so intensive like Renee Zellweger's diet for "Bridget Jones's Diary," but Moore is "not watching what I eat as carefully." The play, directed by Jim Hutchison, runs June 17-20 at the Hawai'i Theatre as a benefit for Manoa Valley Theatre. Tickets went on sale yesterday.

The idea to do this work was born when Joe and Teresa Moore dined with Pat and Lesly Sajak last July at Azul at the Ihilani Resort, and Lesly had the notion that the gents could do the Kramden-Norton roles. ...

Emme Tomimbang's move back to KHON-2 (from KGMB-9) is just one spoke on a wheel of activities she plans to roll out this year — her 10th anniversary of "Emme's Island Moments."

Her new season kicks off with a special at 9 p.m. Thursday, when she features the late surfing giant Rell Sunn, and talks story with Jason Scott Lee about his newest project, "Nomad" (filming in Kazakstan), and life on the Big Island, the "new" Hapa (and why the "old" is no more) and Nainoa Thompson of Hokule'a fame. Further, Tomimbang's milestone year will embrace seven concerts hither and yon (the first was on Lana'i with The Makaha Sons and Willie K), a DVD of highlights of a decade of "Moments" and a Watermark Publishing book, "Inspired Moments," with quotes from her past guests. ...

Richard Pellett, performing the Richard Burton role (George) in Army Community Theatre's Readers Theatre play "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" (at 2 p.m. Sundays at Richardson Theatre), marked his 68th birthday when the show was in final rehearsals. The party was at director Vanita Rae Smith's house, and the cast — including Jo Pruden, Russell Motter and Shari Lynn — assembled for a birthday cake and "Happy Birthday" singing. ...
