OIA Division II West: Nanakuli's Mao proves versatile

Advertiser Staff

Nanakuli swept top honors on the OIA West Division II all-star team, with catcher/outfielder Victoria Mao named Player of the Year and Houston Anderson chosen as Coach of the Year.

The Golden Hawks (4-6) also led the way with five selections.

Mao proved capable of hitting against the best teams, as evidenced by her 2-for-3 performance with a triple against division co-champ Mililani.

"She was one of our better students, too," Anderson said.

Joining Mao on the first team are teammates Johnelle Ioane (first base), Frances Busano-Leleo (second base) and (outfielders) Maydeen Tangaro and Chantel Tuiloma.

'Aiea's all-star trio is third baseman Kalei Castillo, shortstop Darci Yoichisako and pitcher Ashley Sato, who tossed a three-hit shutout and went 3 for 4 in the OIA White (Division II semifinals).

Radford was represented by outfielder Erica Webber and utility player Maua Manuma.
