HILO, Hawai'i — A 33-year-old Hilo man who police say used his car to run down another man Sunday morning in Hilo has been charged with second-degree attempted murder.

Eric K. Kai was being held in the Hilo cellblock in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Police were called to Mamaki Street near Malama Park in Pana'ewa at 8 a.m. Sunday and found a man lying on the ground with head and other injuries.

The injured man was in good condition yesterday at Hilo Medical Center. The man identified Kai as the driver of the car that struck him.

Detectives are looking for the car that struck the man. It was described as a brown, four-door sedan with a light-brown right-rear door. Call Detective Jason Cortez at (808) 961-2381 or the police nonemergency number at (808) 935-3311.
